Claire Powell

I was bowled over when I saw my first quilts at the American Museum in Bath though it took me another 20 years to have a go myself though I was soon addicted to both piecing and quilting. For me patchwork provides me with an opportunity to play with design and colour. I also enjoy the challenge of being more accurate and trying out new techniques. Increasingly I am drawn to contemporary, innovative and modern quilts.

Discovering quilting was a real light bulb moment in terms of how it changes a quilt top into a quilt. How I quilt, whether by hand, domestic machine or on my long arm is very much driven by the quilt itself and what it says to me.

I strongly believe the world would be a better place if everyone quilted! So I find teaching workshops, particularly to beginners, and encouraging fellow quilt makers very rewarding.
