The Buttercross Quilters are celebrating our 30th anniversary in 2014.
This theme was incorporated into our anniversary exhibition at the end of May this year. Members made, then donated, 30 quilts to our local children’s hospice, Helen and Douglas House.
The group also made a quilt collectively. It was based on the Starlight Express pattern created by Lynne Edwards MBE, as published in the journal Patchwork & Quilting, in August 2011. Margaret Metcalfe, pictured here in front of the quilt, was responsible for assembling the blocks and finishing the quilt, including having it long-arm quilted.
This beautiful quilt was the prize in a challenge (guessing the number of buttons in a jar) at our exhibition. Proceeds from this game were also donated to Helen and Douglas House.
Our quilt was won by an American visitor and will soon be on the other side of the pond!
